Mattia is a communications and policy adviser with a focus on Ukraine and the internal and external dynamics shaping its policies and politics, and Russia’s foreign policy towards its neighbours.

Previously, Nelles was Communications Advisor for the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) for their projects in eastern Ukraine.

Prior to this, Mattia was Program Director for Ukraine at the Center for Liberal Modernity (LibMod), a Berlin-based think-tank where he focused on enhancing German-Ukrainian relations.

Mattia holds a master’s degree in political science from the Free University of Berlin.
